PAGE SIX-THE ARCHER COUNTY NEWS-THURSDAY, APRIL 10. 1997
An beautiful example of the Spring Wildflowers along Hwy. 79 in Archer County.
These beauties were photographed at "Chalk Hill". At the time this photo was
taken, Tuesday afternoon, the temperature was in the 20's in Amarillo and headed
this way. Spring flowers for not so spring like weather.

I finally got the chance to see
most of Archer County last
week. It was a whirl wind trip
however. I traveled the county
hanging up posters promoting
the big concert to be held this
weekend.
I realized that most of the
county is not towns but coun-
try side. The grass was green
from the recent rains, and there
was just a touch of haze, the
evening I was out, to give the
whole area that beautiful but
"lonesome on the plains" look.
There is also a lot of evidence
that Spring has most definitely
sprung. April is one of the pret-
tiest mojnths in Texas with the
wild flowers taking over the
roadsides. Beautiful blue and
white bluebonnets and bright
red, yellow and orange Indian
| paintbrush let travelers along
the highways and back roads of
Texas know it is Spring.
The flowers seem to be saying
come on out and enjoy nature
with us. So pack up the family
and head out to one of the
many outdoor events in the
area. You might want to mark
you calendar with the following
events.
The all day NWTX Practice
Music in Archer City this Sat-
urday. There is a story on the
front page of this issue with all
the information. Or call Kathy
at (817)574-2489.
On April 24 - 27 Is the Wild-
flower Festival in Richardson,
Texas. You can call (972)238-
| 4021 for more information.
A North Texas tradition is the
Germanfest in Muenster. This
year it will be April 25-26. Here
you can find hearty food and
lively German music with plenty
of dancing. For more informa-
tion call (817)759-2227.
| Spring Fling is in Wichita Falls
on April 26 and 27 at the Mu-
seum and Art Center. There
you will find music, entertain-
ibiont and artwork to see and
purchase. Call (817)692-0923
for more information.
To get the big picture you
might like to attend the Earth
Day Fair at’the MPEC Exhibit
Hall on April 22. in Wichita
Falls.
On April 26th the March of
Dimes will have it's Walk
America in Lucy Park. You can
call 723-4956 for more infor-
mation.
One of the other great things
about all the "country side" in
Archer County is the visibility
of stars at night. Most folks
who have the misfortune of liv-
ing in a city miss much of what
you in Archer County are
treated to every night. Or at
least those nights there are not
clouds.
I had tried to see the comet
from Wichita Falls but it was
difficult. But when I wag be-
tween Wichita Falls and Archer
City I could see it clearly. You
see, most places in Archer
County are far enough out that
the city lights don't steal their
stars.
So while business, popula-.
tion and traffic my not be in
abundance in Archer County,
some of the better things na-
ture has to offer are. Get out
and take advantage of Spring
and if none of the festivals I
have mentioned sound up your
alley make up some of your
own. Maybe the "Driving
Around Archer County to Just
Look Festival" should be on
everyone's calendar. Or you
might want to have the "First
Annual Sit Out In Our Back
Yard And Look at the Stars
Party". What ever you choose to
do you wont be missing out.
just as long as you get out.
