Salvation Army kettle
drive continues
The Archer City
Salvation Army
continued their
kettle drive this
week, by placing the
kettle in the lobby of
the Archer County
Courthouse Annex,
pictured at right.
Since the reestab-
lishment of the Sal-
vation Army here,
they have been re-
sponsible for help-
ing 26 families in
need. The board,
made up of Donna
Johnson, Vicki
Davis, Bill
Taliaferro and Tami
Crowley, are asking
for new donations,
as funds are low at this time. It is
necessary to raise some money to
help the families in this town who
will be faced with paying high
utility bills this summer.
Davis said, “Our goal is to raise
enough money to get us through
the summer months.”
The group is planning a fun run
this fall to raise money for the rest
of the year.
All moneys raised here will be
used locally, as long as you des-
ignate “Archer City” on your
check.
The kettle will stay at the An-
nex through the end of this week,
then next week, it will be placed
in the American National Bank
lobby. The drive began at State
National Bank in Archer City last
week.

Windthorst Community
hosts blood drive May 5
The Windthorst community is
partnering with Texas Blood
Institute (TXBI) in an effort to
save lives by sponsoring a blood
drive. Anyone who is healthy
and 17 or older, is invited to the
Knights of Columbus Hall,
18813 US Highway 281, from
12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, May 5 for a blood
drive sponsored by Windthorst
community.
All blood donors will receive
a free tote bag, along with health
screenings and Members for Life
Points to use in TXBI's online
store.
"On behalf of the patients in
local hospitals served by TXBI,
we appreciate Windthorst blood
donors for making blood
donation a priority," said John
Armitage, M.D., Texas Blood
Institute president and chief
executive.
Since there's no substitute for
blood, the supply must
constantly be renewed.
Although all blood types are
needed, those with O Negative
type blood are especially
encouraged to donate.
According to the American
Association of Blood Banks,
those with O Negative blood
type make up only nine percent
of the national population.
However, O Negative blood can
be used by anyone in emergency
need when a patient's blood type
has not yet been identified.
Texas Blood Institute is a non-
profit, regional blood center. It
is the sole source of blood for
patients in the eight hospitals in
the North Central Texas counties
of Baylor, Wichita, Clay,
Hardeman and Wilbarger.
Hospitals served include Kell
West Regional Hospital,
Wichita Falls; Electra Memorial
Hospital, Electra; United
Regional, Wichita Falls; Clay
County Memorial Hospital,
Henrietta; Chillicothe Hospital,
Chillicothe; Wilbarger General
Hospital, Vernon; Hardeman
County Memorial Hospital,
Quanah; and Seymour Hospital,
Seymour.
For more information or to
make an appointment to donate,

Christian Mothers
Society meets
The Christian Mothers Society
of Windthorst monthly meeting
was held April 7 and attended
by thirteen members. President
Margaret Schroeder led the
opening prayers followed by
Secretary Lillie Rife reading the
minutes of the previous meeting
and Elizabeth Hoff giving the
treasurer's report. It was noted
that many dues funds had been
received following the mailing
of the reminder letters. Thanks
to those who responded.
Correspondence was read and
greeting cards were signed by
those present for members who
are ill, grieving or ne^d
encouragement. Prayers were
encouraged for those members
in need of them. This is one of
the missions of our society.
The twice-per-year meal was
served to the MSU students on
Monday, April 19; the donations
of casseroles and desserts are
sincerely appreciated as well as
the ladies who served the food.
Over fifty students were fed a
delicious meal.
The members agreed to help
at the reception following
Confirmation on Wednesday,
April 21. They also voted to
donate $200 for the Vacation
Bible School held in June. This
also helps fulfill the society's
mission to support the spiritual
education of our children in the
community.
Windthorst
A suggestion was made about
possibly not meeting during the
summer months. This decision
was tabled until the May meeting
on Thursday, May 6, which will
be the annual Mission Day held
on the World Day for Peace.
Some radical groups want to
abolish this special day
established in 1952 and we must
pray that this doesn't happen. It
will begin at 10:30 am in the
Convent building with the ladies
making rosaries, having the
meeting, then praying a rosary
at the Grotto at noon. All in the
parish are invited to participate
in the rosary after which the
members will enjoy a covered-
dish lunch together. On display
then will be the quilt sewn by
Alma Pennartz and to be donated
to the parish picnic in June.
All members are encouraged
to attend the Wednesday evening
Mass on May 5 which will be
offered for deceased member,
Juanita Munchrath.
President Margaret reported
on her recent trip to Costa Rica
where she visited the child she
sponsors and supports. She also
took a number of rosaries which
were appreciated.
Door prizes winners were
Marie Veitenheimer, Alma
Pennartz, Ida Hoff, Margaret
Schroeder and Benita Essler.
