Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor
Several of us students at ACC
desire to give our heartfelt
thanks to Br. Humble for the
thought -provoking report given
during both chapel periods Nov.
0.
You see wo too believe in the
high Christian ideals of ACC. We
believe that the Bible is God's
Word for us. We believe in the
divinity of Jesus Christ. Wo be-
lieve the motto of the college
"First Things First" not just be-
cause it is the motto of the
college but because it is what
was said In essence by the Lord
in Matthew 6:33. '
We are grateful to you Br.
Humble for presenting those
thoughts not merely because they
were different and revolutionary
but because they revealed some
aspects and activities of ACC that
each and every child of God
needs to inquire about. Indeed
we need to continually ask our-
selves "What arc the purposes
of life?" !'How am I using my
time and talents for the fulfilling
of those purposes?"
It Is our prayer that ACC will
always strive to help the students
who enter her doors to attain
those purposes and that none of
us will sec this school as an end
in itself but as a means to spread-
ing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to
the entire world.
May the Lord bless each one of
the ACC family as we strive to do
our small part In the work of the
Lord.
We are committed to the high
Christian ideals of this school.
Sincerely
Recce Mitchell
Dear Editor
Last week an article appeared
in the Optimist praising the film
"Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf."
I must disagree with the opinion
stated there.
It may be' that the intended
result was to create a "sense of
repulsion" for such Immorality
but do the ends justify the
means?
It should be obvious that sin
cannot be condoned regardless of
the worthwhile aim. Such blatant
violations of God's name must be
in that category. Think how many
people heard the name which
we reverence so misused.
Surely there must be some
other way to discourage deprav-
ity without resorting to such
vile abuses of our Lord's name.
Sincerely
Lynn Walker

he was only a last minute re-
placement. So there has been no
chance for anyone's objectivity
to become stale.
However the criteria and basis

The other Incorrect statement
was about a fee levied on the
social clubs for placing their pro-
jects on campus. There is no such
fee.
One basic journalistic rule Js
never print unfounded hearsay.
It must be. Seven people told me
so..

Thomas to Attend
Bible Society Meet
Dr. J. D. Thomas professor of
Bible at ACC left Sunday for
New York City to attend the
Advisory Council Board meeting
of the American Bible Society.
Thomas along with M. Norvel
Young president of Pepperdlne
and Burton Coffman of New
York City has been chosen by
the American Bible Society to
attend its 150th anniversary
meeting as an official represent-
ing the Churches of Christ.
This is the first time Thomas
has attended any meetings of the
American Bible Society. When
asked why he was selected as one
of the official observers for the
church he commented. "I was
probably chosen because of my
connections in religious circles."
Writes and PublUhtt
Thomas has written and pub-
lished several books of his own
We Be Brethren Facts and
Faith. The Spirit and Spiritual-
ity are a few of them. Dr. Thom-
as also owns the Biblical Re-
search Press which is a local
publishing company.
He is presently working on
completing the 12 volumes in the
"Great Preachers of Today" se-
ries which his company is pub-
lishing. Another widely known
book which has been published
by Thomas is War and Con-
scionco by Allen Isbell.
Thomas plans to be In New
York about a week before re-
turning to Abilene.
Translation to Be Discussed
Speaking about the purposes
of the Council Meeting Thomas
said that several problems which
confronted the Bible Society
would be discussed. One of these
problems is the relationship be-
tween Catholics and Protestants
in the translation and dlstrlbu-
lon of the Bible. The study of the
Bible in public schools will nlso
be discussed.
During its 150 years the Amer-
ican Bible Society has published
translated and distributed the
Bible In over 1200 different lang-
uages and dialects. It has been '
responsible for publishing the
Bible at a price low enough for
anyone to purchase 20c.
Portions of the New Testament
have been printed for as little as
3c by the Society and they have
been responsible for the free dis-
tribution of thousands of Bibles. .
to various institutions around
the country according to Thomas.
