But ACC coach Wally Bulling-
ton thinks that the Wildcat de-
fense has deserved a lot of credit
for its performances in the last
two baH games.
It was the defense that stood
out especially in the second
half in ACC's 17-17 tie with
Southland Conference foe
Arkansas State. The Wildcat de-
fense allowed ASU only five net
rushing yards during the last two
periods and 57 total offense.
The only lime Arkansas State
was able to move the ball In the
second half was the fine) drive
for the touchdown that tied the
game. And it wus helped along
by a orucW roughing the passer
penalty that occurred on a
four th-and-1 2 situation.
ASU running star Frank
McOuigan rushed for 126 yards
the first half but managed only
16 the second half.
"Our pursuit was the best It
has been all year" said Bulling
ton. "We thought our Hue-
backets (Chip Bennett and Jerry
Wilson) played scpeciaNy wset
And nose guard Jack Kiser we
outstanding m the middle."
Bennett we credited with 18
tackles and seven assists while
Wilson got 10 tackles and a like
number of asset t. Kiser had help
in the line from guards Joel
Foster and Bob Oliver and ends
Courtney King George Co and
Roger Smith.
Bob Bearden playing only his
second geme as a defensive half-
back drew praise from Bulling-
ton. He had the top grade of any
defensive player. Jimmy Stevens
ako turned in a good perform-
ance at the rover position.
Fullback Steve Bennett was
impressive as a blocker especial-
ly at protecting Lindsey from
the pats rush. "He blocked two
men when Lancaster scored on
his 11-yard sweep" said Bulling-ton.
