At a Thursday news conference the
association released the results of a
statewide poll on public attitudes to-
ward teacher competency The Texas
poll, conducted by Texas A&M and

A news conference was held Friday
to announce the endorsement of poli-

and legislative races for the May 3
primary.
No endorsements w-ere made in the

The delegates held a rally Friday
afternoon in nearby Tranquillity Park
to vent frustration over TECAT,
paperwork burdens, and the career
ladder
President Charles Beard told those
attending the rally that Texas
teachers would never submit to test-
ing. “Their tests can rot in the crates
and their pencils can turn to sawdust
before we will be tested again.” Beard
said.

Ingleside children. The youngsters were enjoying the beautiful weather and freedom of spring break before
going back to the classroom Monday morning.
