and he also presented her with
a wrist watch.
“Alice was my first partner
in the newspaper business and
my first linotype operator,” he
commented explaining that they
published a weekly newspaper,
The Ingleside Item, for a few
years during the mid-forties.
Special guests at the dinner
were Mr. and Mrs. James F.
Tracy and Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Poole, of Sinton; and Mr. and
Mrs. Roger Douglas of Ingle-
side.
Tracy is publisher of the
San Patricio County News at
Sinton and co-publisher with
Poole of The Taft Tribune,
Portland News, Mathis News
and other area newspapers.
Tracy also is vice president
and general manager of Roto-
Lith Printing Co. at Sinton, a
central plant where nine weekly
newspapers including The Pro-
gress together with various
shoppers, circulars, etc. are
produced on a new five-unit
offset newspaper press. Rich-
ards is president of the central
plant corporation and Carroll
Keach of Robstown is secre-
tary-treasurer.
The plant is regarded as one
of the most modern in South
Texas and uses between 40,000
and 42,000 pounds of newsprint
per month.
Richards announced that Ms.
Roger (Linda) Douglas, who has
been handling both editorial and
advertising work for The Index,
will continue with the newspaper
under the new ownership. He
pledged to provide the citizens
and business firms of Ingleside
a “good community news-
paper.” The Index is in its
23rd year of publication.
“We can foresee tremendous
growth and prosperity for the
Aransas Pass, Ingleside and
Port Aransas area,” Richards
said. “We have as our goal
the publication of newspapers
which will serve the respect-
ive communities and provide all
the support possible in helping
the area to grow and prosper.
