be playground director at both
Kieberger and Faulk Elemen-
tary schools. She has a Bach-

sical education from Southern
Methodist University.
At the same time they ap-
proved contracts for the new
teachers, trustees accepted the
resignations of the following:
Helen Zyznar, Marcy Ward,
Jeannie Zirkel, Gordon Star-
ling, Nancy Starling, Beverly
Lee, Violet Gruber, Mary Thi-
eda, Cynthia Holland and Eva
Jernlgan.
In other action at their last
regular session, trustees:
—Approved payment of $200
each to Mrs. Blunt and Mrs.
Gullbeau for their additional
services as coaching volley-
ball teams.
--Granted permission to
Rudolfo Torres Jr., president
of the Aransas Pass LULAC
Council, to use school facil-
ities to conduct a program by'
the "Drug Abuse Council” de-
signed for adults.
—Heard a list of requests
from Carolyn Crosse, repre-
senting the local Classroom
Teachers Association, tor
"trustees” consideration. No
action was taken.
—Heard a report from the
City of Aransas Pass that the
school district must provide
approximately $1,200 for sewer
and water lines to the new high
school building under constru-
ction.
--Heard a report from L. R.
Nedbalek, school tax assessor-
collector, and A. C. Blunt, sup-
erintendent, on a survey by
Zunga Engineering Company at
Faulk and Kieberger Elemen-
tary schools to determine air-
conditioning requirements, ap-
proximate cost for each school.
Trustees agreed that "further”
studies and co6t estimates be
obtained.
—Approved the continuation
of using the local bank--First
State Bank--as the school de-
pository.
--Received a copy of the audit
for the Aransas Pass Band
Boosters Club for the period
of September 1, 1972 through
April 30, 1973.

Firm Low Bidder
On Canal Project
Garrett Construction Com-
pany of Corpus Cbristi was the
apparent low bidder Tuesday
afternoon on a U. S. Corps of
Engineers project calling for
dredging maintenance in the
Intracoastal Canal, Ken Bon-
ham, public affairs spokesman
for the Engineers’ Galveston
office, told The Progress by
telephone.
Bonham said Garrett’s bid
was $156,306--the lowest of four
bids received and "consider-
ably under the government esti-
mate of $214,309 for the pro-
ject.’*
The Corps of Engineers off-
icial said the work includes
maintenance dredging of about
seven and one-half miles of
channel with dimensions of 12-
feet by 125-feet through Red-
fish and Corpus Christ! bays.
Bonham said the government
agency expects to award the
contract within the next week
and construction is slated to
begin by August 1. He said
the contract calls for the pro-
ject to be completed in Oct-
ober 1973.

1963 SHRIMPOREE "DIES” HERE FRIDAY
Aransas Pass’ 1963 Shrimporee apparently died Friday.
Martin C. Haskett, president of Shrimp Clan, Inc., a
non-profit organization which sponsors the annual events,
said the “lack of Interest’’was the cause of Its cancellation.
TWO-DAY RAIN TOTALS 3.35 INCHES
A two-day rain totaling 3.35-inches fell on Aransas
Pass Monday and Tuesday offering thirsty lawns and
gardens their first sizeable drink In many months.
ARANSAS PASS LIONS CLUB INSTALLATION AND LADIES
NIGHT SET FOR JUNE 27
New officers of the Aransas Pass Lions Club will be
installed June 27 at a ladies night supper and program.
New officers Include: J. G. Richards, president; Cecil
W. Miller, first vice president; Bill Arnold, second vice
president; John W. Brightwell, third vice president;
Damon Smith, secretary; T. D. Crow,treasurer; Moreland
Bexley, tail twister; Robert Speer Jr., lion tamer; and
directors Hap Callison, Thomas Skinner, Richard Rey-
nolds and Allen Fisher.

ROYAL REDS LANDED IN ARANSAS PASS HARBOR
The first commercial boatload of Royal Red Shrimp
to arrive in Conn Brown Harbor was docked here early
Monday morning from the vessel, Mary B W, owned
and skippered by J. D. Welborn of Ingleside-on-the-Bay.
Close to the color of boiled lobster in their live state,
the Royal Reds were caught in about 230 fathoms of water
about 60 miles offshore from Aransas Pass.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
MASONS ELECT NEW OFFICERS: KINKADE WORSHIP-
FUL MASTER
C. A. Kinkade was named worshipful master of Aransas
Lodge No. 1018 when officers for the coming year were
elected Tuesday night. Paul Marsh is outgoing worship-
ful master. Other offices elected were: Frank Bailey,
Jr., senior warden; F. C. Herndon, junior warden; Capt.
J. R. McWilliams, treasurer; Paul Marsh, secretary;
W. W. Perkins, senior deacon; Dr. Boyce Elliott, junior
deacon and E. M. Booker, tiler.
TO MISSISSIPPI
Mrs. H. D. Bonorden and children, Mary Lynn and
Bobby, have been visitors recently in Mississippi. In
Long Beach, Miss., they visited Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Groff and in Yazoo City, they visited with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Stringer.
TO VICTORIA
Mr. and Mrs. John Casall and son, John Jr., were
the guests Sunday of Mrs. Casall’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. B. F. Alford in Victoria.
T-BONE STEAK ADVERTISED AT 79 CENTS PER POUND
A local meat market advertised T-bone steaks at 79
md this week. Other advertised meat prices
sirloin steak, 79 cents a pound; pot roast,
39 cents per pound; short ribs and brisket at 3$ cents
per pound; and round steak at 79 cents per pound.
