But He Never, Never Came.
She was lovely us the morning,
Pure and chased as Autumn frost;
With unsullied reputation
And without one iowel lost.
Hho was modest ms the daisy
In effect ns well as name;
And she waited for a lovor,
But he nevor, nover came.
In adornment she was faultless,
And in manner, calm and true;
And she did not ape the woman
Of the period so new.
She was social and obliging;
Always hopeful —e’er the same;
Had she lover? Ono would think so;
But he never, never came.
Parlor lights were softly shaded —
Curtains fell in creamy fold—
Little silken, downy pillows
Of her skill and genius told;
She wns winsome as tho starlighj—
None could chide her-none could blame;
But she v ailed, vuinly waited,
For a lover never came.
Would you kow why she was slighted,
Like the white roso of all
When tho crimson-hued aro chosen
Though the briars growround them, I all?
She was white, and chased, and polished;
Like the good, unknown to fain*;
And that was why ho no^er sought her—
That was why lie nevor came.

It was then brought to tho attention of
tho bar that steps should be taken at the
earliest moment to purge this town of the
repulsive cocaine fiends, uncivil drunken
wretchos, flippant libertines and foul-
mouthed charaeterswho are continually con-
gregated at and around certain public
places, resorting to such disgraceful boister-
ousners and hilarity that an insult is offored
by tho town to every LaG range lady who
is required to pass such gatherings day
after day. Considerable discussion was
brought about and City Attorney Moore,
commentiug on this sad plight of affairs,
said that he had b*en using every effort to
apply effective remedies, but up till now
had been unsuccessful. He said that no
blame could attach to the oily marshal,
who had employed every means that
human mind can suggest, and that at least
thirty cases had been filed in the Mayor’s
court in which convictions were had, tin-
culprits sent to jail, but that this method
waa simply furnishing board, comfort and a
good time at the expense of the city, while
tho evil went on unhampered. The bar
recognized the importance of some action
and that, vigorous and immediate. Judge
Robson offered the following resolution
