County-Wide Appeal To Be Made
For Emergency Polio Funds
A sixth entry has been made n
the Fayette County Farm Bu-
reau Queen’s contest to be held 1
at the Fair Pavalion Friday
night, August 14.
The new entry is Genelda Ho-
bratschk, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ernst Hobratschk of Rt. 4,
La Grange. Genelda will repre-
sent the Warda local.
The contest will be held in
connection with a dance.
Entries will be accepted until
Friday. Those so far who have
been entered are Mus Shirley
Hinze of Carmine, Miss Carol
Lynn Krause of Swiss Alp, Misj
Elaine Wiemken of La Grange
Miss Bernice Heinrich of Wei-
mar, and Miss Adlln« jurajda of
Ellinger.
A Fayette county-wide emer-
gency appeal for funds to aid
polio victims has been scheduled
for the period Monday, Aug. 17,
through Aug. 31, it is announced
by Miss Clara Roitsch, chairman
of the count’s National Founda-
tion chapter.
A. H. Blume of La Grange has
been named to serve as county
campaign chairman, and area
chairmen who have accepted ap-
pointment are: Walter P. Frey-
tag, La Grange; Mrs. Ben F. Mc-
Cormick of Walhalla, the Round
Top, Carmine and Fayetteville
area; Mrs. Ray Kusek, Schulcn-
burg; and Mrs. E. A. Amim, Fla-
tonia.
Plans for the appeal in the four
areas are now being formulated
by the respective heads, and will
be announced shortly, Blume
said.
The county campaign chairman
said the appeal Is necessary be-
cause the chapter has exhausted
its funds aiding county polio vic-
tim*, In fact, it is $7,271.80 in
debt at this time.
Every cent contributed in the
forthcoming campaign will re-
main, in the chapter treasury for
patient care, Mr. Blume stated.
Currently, one patient is con-
fined in a rest home, another is
at home but requires frequent
periods of hospitalization, and a
third Is at Hedgecroft hospital in
Houston, and accumulated — and
unpaid—patient care for the
three has now mounted to $1,277,
$2,769 and $3,537 respectively.
Hospitalization, nursing care and
physical therapy treatments ac-
count for most of the amounts.
“Everyone’s help will be ur-
gently needed in this polio emer-
gency,” Mr. Blume pointed out.
‘‘We’ve pledged that our patients
will receive all the medical treat-
ment they need, and we know |
that our fellow citizens will help
us carry out that pledge.”
One person, who wishes to re-
main anonymous, made a $50 .
cash contribution to the forth-
coming appeal right after reading !
in the local papers that such a
drive was^ in the offing. It is
hoped the general public will
open its hearts and purses In this
humanitarian cause.
