Leps Handed 14-0 Defeat by Cards
The La Grange Leopards lost
a 14-0 decision to the Columbus
Cardinals Friday night, Oct. 10.
This was the first district game
for both teams.
Kenneth'Pate was the big Card
who caused the Leps most of
their trouble. He scored the first
Cardinal touchdown with seven
minutes left in the second quarter
when he drove over from the
three-yard line. Butch Reichle
kicked his first of two successful
points.
With little time left in the se-
cond period, Pate took to the air
and passed nine yards to Merritt
Nicewander for Columbus’ sec-
ond counter.
The Leopards came close to
paydirt in the fourth quarter
when they drove to the nine-yard
line, but were forced to hand the
ball over on downs.
The Cards racked up 23 first
downs to 18 for La Grange and
held a rushing margin of 246-104.
Mike Lobpries, Buddy Fut-
schlk, Gary Koopmann and Da-
vid Hajovsky got in some nice
ground gains and Ricky Blume
made good five out of 12 pass
tries. One pass was a 23-yard
aerial to Futschik in the first
quarter when La Grange got as
far as the Cardinal 11, but lost
the ball on downs.
David von Minden and Billy
Baca, starting tackel and guard,
stood out on defense. The largest
crowd of the season turned out
for this first district encounter. It
was also “dad’s night’’.
