Couple receive award for
lifetime of focusing on God

The patriarchs of an ACU
dynasty June and John Estes Jr.
were honored by the university
Monday with the Christian Service
Award for a lifetime of commit-
ment to service.
The Monday luncheon at the
Abilene Civic Center concentrated
on honoring the Esteses for their
commitment to Christian educa-
tion strong families and spreading
the word of God throughout the
world.
"Twd priorities have always been
evident in the lives of John and June
Estes - God and family" said Dr.
Royce Money university president.
"They offer an uncompromlsed life-
time of Christian service."
Presenting the Esteses with the
award was an honor Money said.
Both of the Esteses graduated
from ACU then Abilene Christian
College In 1948.
All four of their children fol-
lowed with a Christian education
by attending Abilene Christian
Schools and ACU.
Now almost all of their grand-
children have experienced a Chrls-i
lian education as well.
"Johnls been interested in every
area of the school at one time or
another" said Bill Hilton long-
time friend and ACU vice presi-
dent emeritus. "He and June have
always been involved in Abilene
Christian Schools. They believe In
Christian education"
Both the Esteses served on the
ACS board and now their grown
children share in this commitment
by also serving on the board.
"Their appreciation for Christian
education has intensified through
the years" said Kay McGlothlln
class of '49 and wife of former pres-
ident of the board of trustees Ray
McGlothlln. "They have been
among the most ardent supporters
of Abilene Christian Schools."

benefit for summer translators
World Wide Youth Camps is planning
a "Walk Around the World benefit for
translators for the 1999 summer pro-
gram. Dessert and fellowship 'are avail-
able from 7-9 p.m. In the Hilton Room of
the Campus Center on March 2. Adult
tickets are $10 and children tickets pre

translators.
