Hermann Wessels of near West

business.
Mrs. G. I). Wessels and daughter
of Rutersville were in the city Tues-
day shopping.
Wm. Hinzeofthe Bluff section
was mingling with his friends in
LaGrange Saturday.
Miss Lillie Zapp of Fayetteville
successfully performed the operation
five times.
“Members of the Mayfield sani-
tarium staff said that they could re-
call no case in and around Saint
Louis in which a doctor had per-
formed so vital an operation on his
town wife. It is not the custom for
physicians and surgeons to treat
members of their own family. In
this case the doctor said he yielded
to the pleadings of his wife who
told him that she would not give
her consent to have the operation

Mrs. Tom Berry of Big Springs

her parents, Henry Sladczyk and

Mrs. Kate Joiner of Winchester

week with the family of W. A.
Caldwell.
Gus Meyer of the O’Quinn sec-
tion was in town Saturday for a
few hours making his week-end
purchases.
Misses Frances Richers and liva
Heller of Halsted came up Saturday
and spent the day with their rel-
atives and friends.
Mrs. Adel De Bardlaben of Syla-
caugh, La., sister of Mrs. J. M.
Byrnes, is in the city on a visit to
the family of the latter.
Otto Meerscheidt of Hondo came
down Wednesday to spend a few
days here with his aunt Mrs. Louise
Scliolz and brother Carl.
Paul Schrocder, proprietor of the
Progressive Farm, and breeder of
red poll cattle near Muldoon, was
here Tuesday morning on a busi-
ness mission.
. Prof. J. A. Smothers of Swiss
v Alp was a Saturday visitor to the
^county capital.« The professor’s ap-
pearance indicates that his neigh-
bors have been kind to him.
Mrs. Leo Frede and son Herbert
and Mrs. J. L. Haidusek left for
San Antonio Monday morning to
witness the production of Henry
Savage’s greater sensation, “Iivery-
womati."
J. B. Klem, auditor for the Lemp
Brewing Company, and Henry
Vnhlkauip of St. Louis were here
Monday to attend the annual meet-
ing of stockholders of the LaGrange
Ice and Cold Storage Company.
Miss Edna Taylor, teacher at
Muldoon, came over Friday eve-
ning, suffering from an attack of
la grippe. She remained with her
parents. John F. Taylor and wife,
until Tuesday morning, when she
returned to resume her duties.
Gus. Heilig came down from
Austin Friday night to visit his
family, attend to his newspaper
business and see his friends. Gus
says the boys are at it with a vim
now, and in his opinion the pres-
ent legislature is going to be a live-
ly one.
Chief H. W. Speckels left for
Austin Thursday night to meet
with a committee of State volun-
teer firemen, who represent the
Firemen's Association, with a view
to impress the legislature with the
importance of a change in the in-
surance law.
surgeon.
“But the other surgeons feared
that at the critical moment Dr.
Triggs natural affection for his wife
might cause him to break down.
For that reason he was prevailed
upon to have three others in at-
tendance, hut their services proved
unnecessary.
Mrs. Trigg is 40 years old. She
and Dr. Trigg were married about
“ ‘Three months ago,’ said Dr.
Trigg, ‘Dr. O’Bar and myself made
a diagnosis of my wife’s case and
found that the operation would be
necessary. As soon as she learned
the truth my wife refused to permit
anyone but me to operate, as she
knew that in previous operations I
had been successful. Of coujj^e I
hated to do it, and every time I
I thought of what was impending
a cold shudder ran through me.
Although I was confident of suc-
cess I wanted someone else than
myself to have the responsibility in
case anything should happen. I
rode with her to the hospital and
even then I would have shirked if
possible, but almost her last words
before she went under the anaes-
thetic were, ‘Be sure and do it your-
self, now.’
“ ‘But when the operation was
over and I saw that there was more
than a fair chance of her recovery,
an awful load was lifted off my
mind.’ ”
Marshall Andrews Trigg, as the
baby will be called, is a lusty spec-
imen of childhood and, according
to the doctor, has a pair of fine
lungs. He is certain to live.
