Photograph of the USS West Virginia (BB-48) burning and sinking following damage from the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Much of the West Virginia is underwater and it is slightly listing. Smoke rolls from the amidships and envelops and obscures the view of the the bow. There are still two men in the West Virginia's superstructure. The USS Tennessee (BB-43) can be seen behind the West Virginia. A small boat with five men aboard is sailing towards the West Virginia to rescue seamen.
