Anderson was considered a national hero for his defiance of the Confederacy in the first battle of the Civil War at Fort Sumter in April 1861. Description: Painting of original fort of Fort Worth. Painting was done by Miss Usher, for Florance Peak, wife of the first Dr. Of Fort Worth. (Dr. Carroll Marion Peak) she was also the mother of the first born boy born in the community. She had the painting retouched by Miss Christina McKlean to be gifted to Frank Kent, by Olive Peak and Lily Peak. (Daughter of Dr and his wife) on the eve of Fort Worths Centennial.

City of Fort Worth Texas Historical Marker

Description: Texas historical marker on the lawn of the Tarrant County Courthouse. The site of the original fort was selected by Major Ripley Arnold and Colonel Johnson. The post was referred to as Fort Worth although it was not formally designated as a fort until several months after it was established.
