Description: A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from L. E. Newton, Rotan, Texas, Mayor, dated January 29, 1942. Newton advises of gossip regarding remarks purportedly made by Carswell in reference to Newton and the Defense Guard at Rotan. He states, "I never was much of hand to pay attention to 'rumors'" and requests that Carswell write to assure him no such statement was made.
