Description: Patent for a inkstand with a magnetized pen-rack. If the pen or pencil isn't metal, a metal sleeve is provided to put around the utensil so it can sit on the rack. There is a space for ink-wells, pen-boxes, and a space for advertisements. It is meant for customers to use in lobbies.

Wire Twister and Tightener.

Description: Patent for a wire twister and tightener for wire fences. With this invention, "the fence-wire is caused to be contracted, twisted, and made taut" (lines 17-18). It is a set of toothed ratchet wheels that have v-shaped slots for the wire. Pawls act on the teeth, and springs and levers move the pawls.

Description: Patent for an improved way of raising, lowering, and locking window shades into place. "The operating-cord passes over a pulley located between two larger disks, one of which is screwed toward the other by a spring to clamp the folds of the cord and is screwed in the opposite direction by means of a lever, upon which the chord itself acts when drawn in the proper direction" (lines 14-20).

Description: Patent for a knee-pad used while picking cotton, berries, or gardening. It protects the knee from dampness, stones, roots, etc. The pad goes on the knee, and two wooden braces are on the sides. A strap goes around the user's shoe, and the bolts were the pad is attached to the braces also has string where the operator ties the brace to himself.

Description: Patent for a simply-constructed rotary, steam-powered engine that minimizes friction and noise, and for which wear is automatically compensated. It is "capable of running at a very low or high speed without subjecting the parts to any unusual strains or wear" (lines 16-18). Non-Refilling Bottle.

Description: Patent for a non-refilling bottle that has a groove in its neck, a spring that fits in the groove, and a keeper that fits in the bottle opening and keeps the spring in place. The cork fits inside the keeper, thus sealing the bottle. A wire goes through the cork and the keeper, and is twisted together above the cork; when pulled, the bottle can be opened.

Description: Patent for a machine that cleans barrels. It has "barrel-supporting rollers to rotate the barrel in contact with brushes" (lines 13-15), which are more durable than rollers made from rubber tires. The rollers also each have an inner portion, a detachable annular exterior, and an elastic ring around the outside. Brushes are attached on opposite sides of the barrel, held up by a frame.
