Dear Janice:
You must admit we all made a grand entrance in the Limo - right?
I was sorry not to have more time to talk during the conference
but two hotels being so far away from the meeting rooms made
contact difficult.
What I wanted to talk about what appears to be excessive demands
on you time by the district. If at all possible we would like to
bring some pressure to get you out from under some of the
responsibilities draining your energy from the art supervision.
If you could give us names, other then Dr. Edwards and Brooks
Ray, that to do some arm bending we would like to propose the
following content in a letter to the district.
In a letter dated October 10, 1991 Dr. Edwards agreeded that 10%
of your time would be devoted to activities related to the staff
development and implementation efforts of the Institute. In that
same letter "six art teachers will devote a substantial amount of
time toward the DBAE program." The letter goes on to read "Based
upon current salaries and school district benefits, this amounts
to an in-kind contribution of $79,795.42 as detailed on the
attached worksheet."
If we wrote Dr. Edwards, or any other official you might suggest,
and reminded them of this committment would it help give you and
six other art teachers additional time for working with Nancy
Berry?. Time is very short we must have all paper work for the
participant notebooks completed by May 29th. and we need the
complete participant list by next week.
If the Institute is not able to document the "in-kind
contribution" by the district we are in touble with not only the
Getty but also the Marcus Foundation. It was suggested to the
Marcus Foundation that we would support more Dallas schools than
from any of the other sites. In the letter from Jack to you on
December 11, 1991 he stated "...The Institute is also prepared to
fund 100% of the stipends ($11,200) for seven additional teams
and seven additional principals to attend the 1992 Institute."
I will call in the next few days and discuss the best plan of
