Notes

Image provided by Byrd M. Williams IV for the University of North Texas Press publication, Proof: Photographs from Four Generations of a Texas Family.

Byrd III studio specialty was ballet. He often entered his best art shots for competition in local and national ‘Salons’ (an Academie des Beaux-Arts term for an exhibition.) He did, however, have to make a living so he served many $1 a shot school and event photographs. Sometimes the charm of this journeyman's work exceeds their tackiness, or maybe that is the source of their allure.
