This is the oldest and largest organization of its kind in the U.S. It first opened in 1980 to build public awareness and appreciation for ranching heritage. They relocated in 2009 to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and maintain a vast exhibition dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of the cattle industry.

1 photograph : b&w ; 8 x 13 cm.

Notes

There is a long handwritten note on the back of the photograph. " 'Old Dan' foaled Pecos Valley, New Mexico Spring 1904. Brought to South West Louisiana by a drover fall 1904. Dan took some and weary was sold for $3.00. Was a steed until 12 years old. Lived 41 years. Picture two months before his death with Mr & Mrs. E. R. Perkins. Fields by Perkins owned him his last 27 years."
