The Weather has been considerably mix-
ed up this week ; in the early part we had
clear, sunny days, with a brisk wind blow-
ing from the south-west. Then we were
visited by one of those cold and piercing
Northers, which made us forget the little
summer notions that we had contracted
during the warm weather that has prevail-
ed since Spring commenced. After this,
the wind shifted to the north-east, and on
Thursday night we had a good rain, which
has done an immense amount of good. The
rain that fell is sufficient for a week or so,
but at the end of that time we will be suf-
fering again if we do not get more. This
is just enough to start everything to grow-
ing nicely without stopping plantation
work or drowning cut tender vegetables.
This morning another norther is blowing
while the sun is shining beautifully. It is
hard to conjecture what will be the stage
of weather by night ; if the norther contin-j
ues eight hours longer
surprised to see some
morning.
