Photograph of Leathernecks of Headquarters Squadron 24, Marine Aircraft Group 24 listen to music courtesy of Stephen Koenig, III (violin) and others while aboard ship somewhere in the South Pacific during 1943. Cpl. Koenig from Alvin, Texas was a field music stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Santa Barbara, California, with MAG-24 before deployment to the island of Bougainville. Three soldiers in the center of the frame hold an archtop acoustic guitar, a violin, and a mandolin. The soldier playing the violin is smoking a cigarette. The rest of the soldiers look toward the musicians.
