Total safety culture applied
Employees from chemical plant
Unified Chemicals Operations (UCO)
area were winners for their Total
Safety Culture effort. Team members
are Barry Barlow. Joe Caesar, Jack
Coleman, Doug Cox, Damon
Davenport, Louis Delgado, Ronny
Fudge, Leroy Jackson, Todd Latimore,
Jerry Lee, Calvin Mills, Zeb Nash,
Joey Stanley and Lorenzo Villanueva.
Safety programs have continuously
improved at the chemical plant, but
over the years performance seemed to
have reached a plateau. A fundamen-
tal change was needed to reach the
next level of performance. To make
that change a reality, it was decided to
include behavior observations and

processes. They also collected data
from the processes to drive improve-
ments.
This approach quickly yielded good
results. The team demonstrated that
management support and employee
ownership of the process were key
success factors.
Sharon wins in Asia Pacific
Sharon Tinker, who now is a relia-
bility engineer in the Basic Chemicals
Operations Department, was assigned
to Singapore Aromatics Company
(SAC) from 1995 to November 1998.
SAC is a joint venture company
owned by Exxon Chemical, Amoco
and Chinese American
Petrochemical.
She implemented Operations
Integrity Management System (OIMS)
at the Singapore Aromatics Company
with relentless energy, enthusiasm
and dedication, much to the gratitude
and admiration of fellow7 colleagues.
Sharon was personally involved in
ever}7 step of the project, working
closely with both sponsors and admin-
istrators, as well as all employees
