At Palmer Tuesday
Rev. J. D. Grey made a business
trip to Dallas today.

FOLLOWING COURT RULE
Austin, Texas, Feb. 16.—W. W.
Heath, secretary of state, remitted
to the state treasury $804,437 which
had been held in suspense pend-
ing a decision on validity of the
Texas franchise tax. The levy was
recently upheld .by the United
States Supreme court in the South- 1
Next Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Pal-
mer, there will be held our first
county meeting of the new year
and Ennis W. C. T. U. is expected
to send a good delegation. There
will be speakers from other towns
and a program of much interest.
Each one will take a dish for the
luncheon.

with red hearts, carrying out the

Games and contests were used
for the entertainment of the
guests.
Before the presentation of the
gifts to the honoree, Mrs. Gordon
McNorton gave a toast to Mrs.
Scott, expressing in an original
and humorous way the regret that
is felt by all in her departure
from our midst.
The refreshment plate held hot
chocolate, cake and red heart
mints. Plate favors were candy,
hearts.
Guests included twenty close
friends and neighbors of the hon-

Austin, Texas, Feb. 16.—Sixteen
Texas universities and colleges have
enrolled 1,395 students in the fed-
eral government’s program of part
time employment, the Texas Relief
Commission announced Thursday.
The students will receive an av-
erage of $15 monthly for work in
certain fields, including social serv-
ice, research and routine janitorial
activity about the campuses and
buildings.
The commission estimated the
government would expend in this
manner approximately $70,000 in
Texas before the end of the cur-
rent semester.

Agricultural and Mechanical Col-
lege, 205; Southwestern University,
28; Stephen F. Austin Teachers
College, 66; St. Edward’s College,
15; Baylor College, 48; East Texas
