Additional historical information: Address 219 Mills Avenue. Contract for the building was dated on may 25th 1917 and work commenced on June 29th 1917. Contractor - William H. Maxwell, Lakeside, Washington. J.C. Elliott Superintendent of Construction, U.S. Public Buildings. Designed by Rowland Gilchrist. The U.S. Post Office is a historic building that was designed in the Beaux Arts architectural style. The lobby is topped by a massive, paneled, saucer-shaped dome, and the rest of the lobby includes polished marble and huge, rounded, ornamental grills of bronze.
