Description

Manuscript of a Bando from the Viceroy Marques de Croix letting the Governor of Nuevo Santander that the fleet has arrived in Veracruz. The first printed edict is from the Marques concerning the eradication of the Jesuit School of Thought; none may teach nor any university allow their books in their possession. The printed Bando is from the Marques and contains a referral by the King to a previous "Real Cedula" where religious authorities are not to give asylum to criminals hiding in churches.

Additional information for handwritten manuscript: "The Viceroy advises the Governor of Nuevo Santander of the arrival of the fleet in Veracruz and requests that he notify the citizens."

Additional information for pp. 2-8: "The Jesuit School of Thought must be completely eradicated. No Jesuit may teach nor may their books nor any of their authors or teachings be permitted in any school or university of the realm. All archbishops, bishops, priests, members of religious orders and all civil authorities as well as students must obey this edict."

Additional information for pp. 9-14: "The King refers to the Real Cedula of Nov. 18, 1750 in which all ecclesiastical and monastical authorities were ordered not to give asylum to thiefs and criminals who fled from the authorities by hiding in the churches."
