EDITORIAL
Two years ago, when I was asked what I was willing to do for the WASP I said, "What do you want me to do/"
The reply was that the newsletter format was changing, and would I agree to be the editor. As I felt that I had
benefited greatly from my WASP associations, I gulped and said "I'll try." I wondered how I would ever fill up all
those pages; how I would ever be able to make the right decisions; and then, mostly, how I would ever be able to
please the membership. Especially please the membership!
Now, two years have flown by. I heard from many members not usually heard from, and that alone makes it worth
my time. Despite many daunting obstacles and faux pas, somehow we seemed to have delivered five issues that
have received good reviews. And I say "We" because I have had the support of really great people.
First and foremost, Janet McDaniel, TWU's choice of professional editor to help me along. The rational for this
was, and still is, that when we are all unable to continue actively keeping up our newsletter, TWU will be able to
step in and continue it for us. They certainly have a plethora of available material!
Dawn Letson and her staff at TWU deserve much thanks, too. They have been very supportive!
Also I have had the encouragement of a great bunch of assistant editors who have been quietly kind; and most of
all, my own close friends who promised to love me anyway, even if I fell on my face.
But remember, it was the copy that you all sent to me; all the hard work and whip cracking that the Class News
Editors, A.J. And Bucky, have done; and all the great pictures, especially by Betty Brown who never fails to take
just the right shot, clear and concise, that helps tell the message that we are a bunch of vibrant gals, old or not,
who still command attention in the national press.
I said, in the beginning, that if you sent it to me, typed and clearly stated, it would see print. And you have and it
did.
I said there would always be Class news because I remember when I was house bound and not active, I could live
vicariously through all the wonderful adventures others were having. I have tried to reach the membership who
may not be able to take fabulous trips or speak before interesting forums. I do know that they care just as much as
those who are so able. Our friendships "way back when" were forged in sweat, tears and love and we DO care how
each of our friends and baymates have all turned out.
So, I think the WASP News is just fine and still relevant, but it is because of all of you and your great support.
Best of all, we have stayed within our budget.. .no more, no less. In the future, if revenues are down, you may have
to subscribe, but so far, all is well and in the black. So thank you all and may we have many more issues. Our
News is alive and well, and it has been a rewarding two years.
