Southern Messenger
Beginning publication in 1890 as a small parish bulletin, the Southern Messenger was the first English-language Catholic newspaper published in Texas. This newspaper extensively documents Catholic news, history, and events, as it was published to represent all Texas dioceses up to 1935. Early twentieth-century issues of the Messenger confront attacks from the Ku Klux Klan and other anti-Catholic organizations. The Southern Messenger ceased publication in 1957.
