School districts and art museums across the metroplex
played host to approximately 250 educators attending the
1993 Summer Institute of the North Texas Institute for Educa-
tors on the Visual Arts. Because of the large numbers of
participants this year, the school districts of Dallas, Fort
Worth, Hurst-Euless Bedford, Plano and Denton/Pilot Point/
Allen/Lewisville/Keller met together only once for first dayRichard Jacob, Denton ISD, creates jewelry under the direction of Don
Lawrence, Dallas ISD, during the distance learning experience on the second
Monday of the Institute.I -
Bill Yarborough of Keller ISD works with his group during the 1993 Summer
Institute to discuss and write about the ArtL ns study print, Ivy In Flower, by
Henri Matisse.An aesthetic discussion during "is It art?" focuses on Bemiece Patterson's
Benin cat.

HEB ISD sponsored the first day session at Central
Junior High in Euless where participants registered and re-
ceived materials for the two week institute. After registration,
participants had an opportunity to view a student art exhibit
and browse commerical vendor displays.
The morning session began with Jan Schronk, HEB
Arts Supervisor, welcoming the large group, then introducing
