MAN ON CAMERA:
The House-approved tax bill--which provides for
additional taxes on the Texas consumer only--ran into
new trouble today.
For one reason or another, none of the state's 31
Senators was willing to sponsor the legislation before
the Senate State Affairs Committee.
When the Committee's hearings on the bill got
underway today, Representative Ben Atwell, the House
sponsor, had to handle questions.
AFL-CIO president Hank Brown told the Committee
that the tax package is the--quote--"straw that broke
the Camel's back" as far as the tax-paying working man
is concerned. Brown also said that if the lawmakers
pass such a bill, as he put it, "It'll go down as the
'legislative retirement act of 1969=."--MORE--
