The State of Texas now has 5.8 (B) billion dollars
with which to operate until September of 1971.
Preston
Governor Smith today signed the two-year
spending bill, after ik vetoeing some 4.4 (M)
million dollarsM in planned spending. The cuts
included 2.9 (M) million dollars for a Neuro-
Psychiatrict Institute in Dallas.
Smith said the veto was necessary for the sake
of the state's economy, and added:" Cutting this much
out of the bill will give a surplus to begin ournext bienneum with in September of 1971"
