WRIGHT AND F-111
Congressman Jim Wright has again risen to the
defense of the F-111.
In a two-column letter that appeared on the
6d itorial page of the Washington Post the unit cost
of the airplane compares favorably with the cost of
older aircraft of considerably less capability.
Wright also struck out at Arkansas "enator John
McClellan. The Congressman said that in recent
hearings McClellan was still fighting former Defense
Secretary Robert McNamara instead of conducting
an objective study of the controversial airplane.
In his letter, Wright also pointed to the
safety record of the F-111 -- the best of any aircraft
in the Century series that includes the F-1O0, F-102,2-104, 05 and 06.
