SHOOTING REACTION
Texans reacted with a share sense of hock
and anger over the shooting of Alabama Governor
George Wallace.
The man-on-the-street joined political
leaders in their expressions of sorrow, disbelief
and frustration.
Governor Preston Smith sent a telegram to
Wallace... Barefoot Sander, 7blph Briscoe and
Frances Farenthold were among those made public
statements condemning the shooting. Remarks
by former Senator Ralph Yarboro gh probably sums
up what everyone has been saying: "As the nation
prays for Governor Wallace...we pray for ourselves
as a nation. The bullet that str ck Wallace,
like those that struck the Kennedys and King
besmirch our national character and wound ournational soul."
