Gloria Campos is a household name to many in the Dallas-
Fort Worth area. For 22 years, the Latina newswoman has co-
anchored Channel 8's nightly 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.
She has earned many awards for her excellence in journalism,
including the TV/Broadcast News Award of Excellence (1994,
2006, 2008), American Women in Radio and Television
Dallas-Ft Worth Chapter, and the 2010 Texas Tech University
College of Mass Communications - Double T Award for
excellence in Public Service for her weekly "Wednesday's
Child" reports.
In mid-2012, she announced that she would be leaving the
6 p.m. slot to have more time for family. On juggling work
and family, the news legend says that "the trick is to not let
one get out of balance from the other."
In the business for 36 years now, Campos, 57, did it all
when she first entered the world of journalism: shot pictures,
carried around a giant camera and edited - everything her
male counterparts did. However, they never knew quite
what to make of her. "Some of the guys didn't want me there,
didn't know what to do with me, didn't trust me with the
equipment," she says. Fortunately for many young women,
she persevered.
