Notes

Same ensemble and date in Metropolitan Museum of Art collection. Featured in Fall Winter 1997 New York Fashion Week coverage in Dallas Morning News on 23 April 1997.

Spring 2022 essay written by Todd Oldham for a TFC exhibition catalogue: I love crewel embroidery with its rough hewn stitching and lyrical designs. i found a beautiful vintage lightly moth-eaten 2 yard piece at an Amsterdam flea market and reproduced it in lots of irregular ways like the sublimation photo print version in this suit. Dye sublimation printing technique was a popular printing method from the 1970s that only adheres to polyester fabrics. I found a factory willing to try it again but switched from the prior lowly double knit base fabrics to elegant polyester satins I had made at a European ski clothing fabric manufacturer. The results were amazing to me as they were as 3-D as the original fabric, and I was even able to print the moth holes!
