r~2001 TXSSAR President Nathan White
] y fellow Compatriots: I would like to thank all of you for the
onor and privilege of serving you this year as President of
our Texas Society.
We have just concluded a State Convention where we have restruc-
tured the state officer responsibilities by reducing the number of people
handling the transactions while maintaining internal control. The of-
fices of Registrar and Genealogist have been combined into the office
of Registrar and the offices of Recording Secretary and Corresponding
Secretary have been combined into the office of State Secretary. Hope-
fully before the year is over, you will have noticed the improvement.
Our major goal this year, in addition to improving the efficiency of
our State Society, will be to increase the awareness of our organization
with the further result of increasing our membership. This will be the
message I will bring as I visit the chapters. I talk to many people, who
are unaware of SAR, although they are familiar with DAR. For our
mutual benefit, the SAR/DAR must become better known throughout
Texas.
With that in mind we created the office of Vice-President for Pro-
motion and Media Relations, and a committee to support this office.
Already a brochure, suitable for distribution to libraries, DAR chap-
ters, genealogical societies, and other "fertile fields" is being designed.
We hope to provide articles of interest regarding the American Revolu-
tion and The SAR to the hundreds of small newspapers in the state.
In short, our goal is to honor our ancestors by "reaffirming our
faith in the principles of Liberty and our Constitutional Republic" and
RE-PRESENT to our generation the story of the American Revolution
and the need to protect the cherished rights our ancestors fought for.I know you were all impressed with the last issue of the SAR Magazine
that featured President George W. Bush of the Patrick Henry Chapter on
the cover. There was a wonderful article on the US Presidents who were
involved in the Revolution, were real sons or grandsons, or have been mem-
bers of the SAR. I'm happy to announce that former President George
Herbert Walker Bush is following in the footsteps of his sons, George W.
and Jeb, and has joined the SAR as well. He too, will be a member of the
Patrick Henry Chapter and the chapter has voted to make both of them
Perpetual Members.
I look forward to visiting your chapters. Please let me know if or when
you want me to come and I'll try to be there. Also, please put me on your
chapter's newsletter mailing list.
