2007 Awards -- A Supplement Featuring Awards Given at the March 2008 State Meeting in Arlington, Texas
TXSSAR Flag Presentation Awards:
Given to Chapters having recognized an Individual, Company or Organization for the proper display,
maintenance and care for flying the Flag of the United States during the past year. With the majority
of chapters presenting certificates, the Society will receive the "Furlong Award" for the second time
from NSSAR. There were 31 Chapters participating in the Flag Certificate Program in 2007, with 23
repeat winners. We had 108 Flag presentation with 262 compatriots attending these ceremonies.

FIRST GENERAL SESSION
The John Bruce Stuart Jr. Memorial Award:
Established by the Plano Chapter in memory of Compatriot John B. Stuart Jr. and was awarded to the
Chapter based on Veterans activities in the past year. We had 10 chapters reporting Veterans
Activities - 77,000 points. Chapter winners were:
Group 1 (10-39) Ambassador Warren Fletcher # 43 with 4,491 points
Group 2 (40-99) Hill Country # 31 with 13,121 points
Group 3 (100-199) Major K. M. Van Zandt # 6 with 21,357 points
Group 4 (199+) Dallas # 2 with 21,198 points
The Marshall Hunter Award:
Sponsored by the Captain William Barron Chapter and presented in two categories, based on the
chapter membership at the end of the TXSSAR year for the highest percentage of members attending
their regular meetings. Chapter winners were:
Group 1 (1-99) Alexander Hodge # 49 with 71% for 11 meetings
Group 2 (100+) Plano # 37 with 23% for 12 meetings
The Hartsell 0. Stephens Award:
Given in honor of Hartsell O. Stephens and awarded to the individual who sponsors the most new
compatriots during the contest year 2007. The winners were Compatriot Dan Stauffer of the PaulCarrington Chapter #5 with 41 new applications for membership and Compatriot Mike Everheart
of the Captain William Barron Chapter #25 with 35 new applications for membership.
