The Dallas City Council passed by unan-

federal government to immediately increase
within the U.S. Department of Health and
Welfare funds to support research into
the cause of, transmission of, and cure
for AIDS. Item #55 on the May 31st City
Council agenda was introduced by Disti ict

by At-Large District 10 Councilwoman
Annette Strauss. Mrs. Strauss also

There was no discussion and no dissent-

Councilman Jerry Rucker displayed his
feelings on the issue through facial ex-
pressions and sighs of disgust during
the presentations.
The work required to obtain the passage
of this resolution had been done in the

President, Dallas Gay AllianceGay Pride, 1933! Considering the re-
cent political climate in Texas and the
fear and anxiety resulting from Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), some
siniLt wonder if Gay Pride shouldn't take
a "vacation" this summer. However, now,
possibly more than ever before, is the
tine to reinforce within our community
tiat we are a group of proud women and
ien. Just as we've worked for and en-
joyed the successes during recent years,
we have the strength to hold onto our
hard-won progress and move on to even
greater successes in the future.
There are many events scheduled dur-
ing Gay Pride Week, June 18-26, 1983.
Representatives of businesses, bars,
and organizations have worked hard to
plan the best Gay Pride Week in Dallas
history. Please join your friends in as
many of these activities as possible andcelebrate what we are and who we are.
it will be a un week, so enjoy it!
And when Gay Pride Week 1983 has passed,
join your friends again at meetings of
Dallas social, educational, religious,
musical, political, service, or athletic
organizations. There is still much work
to be done, and it won't happen without
you We still face major obstacles to
achieving equal rights for gay men and
lesbians.
Pride among gay people is a relatively
new commodity, and many of our people
still don t feel it. Our challenge to-
day is to continue to educate the non-
gay and gay communities concerning homo-
sexuality so that ignorance and bigotry--
and fear- are eliminated.
Enjoy nay Pride ... every day of your
iives.I

The Adopt-A-Bus Program is now on the
streets of Dallas. As of June 1st, six-
teen Dallas Transit buses bore the mes-
sage The Dallas Gay Community--Working
Toward a Better Understanding" on a 12-
foot sign on tnc side of each vehicle.
The design of tie sign is an adaptation
of the billboard logo by Phil Gerber for
the sign near City Hall and consists of
a large pink triangle with the message
overlaid in black.
The Adopt-A-Bus program was made pos-
sible by donations of $80 for each bus

adopted. This money was used to rent the
space on the buses. The cost of printing
the signs was covered by money collected
by members of the Communication Depart-
ment of the Alliance. This collection
wan accomplished by long hours in front
of bars and businesses with a collection
bottle and a smile.
The Alliance would like to thank the
following individuals and businesses for
their generosity in adopting a bus:
Gaspipe,
Gay employees of Dallas Times Herald,
Hair Revue,
Nob tachance,
John Thomas,
Jack Gorden,
Dignity of Dallas--Outreach to Gay
Catholics,
Craig Spaulding,
Wil1liam Waybourne,
Union Jack,
CrossroadsGreenery,
Dennis Weir and Frank Caven.
We do have the option of adding addi-
tional buses at any time. The second
set of signs will not contain the tag
line "Gay Pride Week June 17-25" and can
continue to appear on the buses through-
out the summer. Anyone wishing to par-
ticipate in the Adopt-A-Bus program
would contact the Alliance or the Cross-
roads Market at 521-13919.obDIALO
