Hefley, who in 1964 confessed
to killing twat infants and rap-

sane by a s e v e n -w o m a n,
five - man jury Thursday in
174th Dist Court here.Houston Jury

Hefley, however, will not be
freed for 30-45 days as prose-
cutors press an appeal of te

ical or psychiatric training
which would qualify him to
comment on Hefley's sanity.
In final arguments Carper
warned the jury "not to try
him on a crime he committed
back in 1964.
"The only evidence you
have heard in this ease is that
Charles Hefley is sane and
does not require any further
hospitalization."
Carper's associate, Ault-
ma commented on the fail-
1% prosecutors to produce
any witnesses other than the
jailer.
"I say it is up to them to
bring you a witness, a doctor
to tell you this boy is not
sane," said Aultman.
"These doctors who have
been brought to you were not
doctors of my choosing," he
said, adding that all were se--
leeted by the state to treat or
examine Hefley.

murder indictments are for
infants. What can an infant do
but cry?
."It can't protect itself when
its mother is being raped.
Shall we put him back out
there where infants can cry
again?" he asked.
