Henmy C.Hank Grover..the Republican nominee for Texas
Governor in 1972..has charged Senator John Tower with
trying to under-cut Grover's campaign to gain the nomination
again in 1974.Grover told Young Republicans at Houston..that Senator
Tower would rather split the GOP and hope no Republican
is elected Governor..than to share the influence Tower has
in the party.Grover bel.eives he is the best choice since-
he ran a close race with Democratic Governor Dolph Briscoe
last time 6ut.
Tower has urged GOP National Chairman George Bush to seek
the Gubernatorial nomination..and Grover says this is
Tower's way of ensuring that the same clique will run the
Texas Republican party..
Bush has said he does not expect to be a candidate..but
does not definitely rule himself out..and expects to make
a firm decision before..or during the Tex GOP Executive
committee meeting in Austin Monday.t
