Notes

From Nicola Contreras: I designed and made my wedding outfit and Rodolfo created the picture of a beautiful silver bird cage with some birds escaping, one of them onto the sleeve of the wild silk white coat. We decided on the colours together and a Japanese textile artist, Katchine, painted the silk before I sewed the coat. I made a satin silk slip dress to wear underneath, bought some lovely cream grosgrain shoes in Soho and ordered a huge white straw hat from Josephine Tripoli on the Upper East side, who trimmed the hat with bows made from the wild silk and straw ribbons. We bought the ring at Tiffany’s, inspired by the film with Audrey Hepburn ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’.
My outfit looked very chic and modern compared to the ‘Lady Di’ influence puffy outfits that had been around since Prince Charles and Lady Diana had got married in London in 1981. This outfit is now in the Texas Fashion Collection.
My sister worked as a picture editor in London and a friend of hers asked to feature our wedding in UK Brides Magazine, which was published Summer 1985.
