Notes

This coat was made as part of the Chauffer’s Uniform worn by John Herbert Forsythe, employed by the Buckley Family on their estate in Litchfield County, Connecticut, in the 1930s. Mr. Forsythe’s job was to drive the estate car, a Pierce-Arrow. After his passing, his widow, Tye Forsythe, kept the coat. In 1977, Mrs. Forsythe was renting a room to music student Rick Kyle, who was from Florida. Seeing that he only had only a windbreaker to wear when walking through the snows of a Connecticut winter, she brought out her husband’s coat and gave it to Mr. Kyle. Mr. Kyle later donated the coat to the Texas Fashion Collection.
