"The Magdalene" Robe of red and black mixed fabrics and appliqué trims. Long, straight sleeves and notched collar. The diamond-shaped center back panel is of mixed cotton patchwork, and includes images of a planet, an abstracted female figure, and snakes, set in an evening landscape.

"The Magdalene"

Robe of red and black mixed fabrics and appliqué trims. Long, straight sleeves and notched collar. The diamond-shaped center back panel is of mixed cotton patchwork, and includes images of a planet, an abstracted female figure, and snakes, set in an evening landscape.

Notes

Artist's statement: The primal earth mother is drawing down the moon. Her life force is vibrant… She is Mother and Creation at once… She birthed, and is birthed by the Universe… She is an affirmation of the planet, our heritage and the future.

She understands our struggles, our feelings of alienation and loneliness, and our choosing at times solitude and at other times sharing. Her image is always a reminder of our interconnectedness to the divine. The spirals on the front ribbon symbolize this interconnection.

The six snakes are powerful totems – They are the symbols of transformation, healing, protection, wholeness, wisdom and initiation. These are the subjects that are important. The 8 stars on her body symbolize the concept of the divine spark within each of us.

Stars represent the struggle against the forces of darkness and the unknown, and the 8 stars here represent: infinity, evolution, focus, rhythm, achievement, advancement, strength and confidence. The leaves on the wide ribbon are the earthy groundings that she embodies. The red colors symbolize: creativity, action, confidence, courage and vitality.
