Bandleader Stan Kenton and a trio of leading jazz
exponents provide andwers about the subject for young
musicians from all around the country, who gather in
Selectman Auditorium, at SMU's Perkins school oftheology.
It's the start of a weeklong Stan Kenton
Clinic, provided by what's called "The National Stage
Band Camp." Kenton's faculty includes John LaPorta,
Leon Breeden and Sam Donahue. Following the clinicregistration yesterday,
The students were auditioned,
ranked according to ability and assigned to classes in
their specialties.
The questions come thick and fast,
like, are there going to be any jobs for us when we
get out of school? Kenton replies, "Now that's the
S challenge -- musicians aren't guaranteed jobs like t
