The first woman justice of the peace in the history
of Dallas County is about to be sworn into office.
Mrs. E. C. King of Grand Prairie yesterday was
ap-'ointed to succeed her husband as justice of
precinct 6. Judge King died Wednesday, the day
after he was elected to a new four-year term. He
had been justice of the peace for 12 years, serving
including/
an area Grand Prairie, Duncanville and
Ceder Hill in Western Dallas County. Mrs. King will
serve two years until the next general election.MED LONG, SCENE
Judge Sterrett says Mrs. King is fully qualified tohold office because she worked closely with her
husband during his service. Women have served in
public office in Dallas County in many capacities,
but never before as justice of the peace. Dallas
County once had a woman commissioner and Mrs. Lulacb
