The Air Force has signed a contract with General
Dynamics of Fort Worth to four-hundred-93
models of the F-111 aircraft. The contract totals one.-
The
billion.-820-million dollars. purchase includes
planes for both the air force and navy, and a number
for Australia and 1 England. GD has been build-
ing the planes under a "letter" or tentative contract.
Today' s announcement means a final contract has been
worked out. Frank Davis, president of General
Dynamicsi
Fort Worth Division, said the firm is extremely happy
about the announcement, which he called a significant
milestone in the F-ll program. The plant currently
employs about 21-thousand persons, A spokesman said
that figure probably will rise, about twQ
thousand within the next year.
