Freshmen
to perform
Follies
Sept. 30
By TOM CRAIG
Friday Edition Editor
1 reshman I allies the annual
freshman talent show has been
slated for Sept 30 in conjunction
with the first Pall Parents' Day
The freshman extravagaii7a has
been performed during Homecom-
ing for the past 16 years
Cheryl Hacon director of alumni
relations said the decision to
change the dates ol the Follies per-
formances is based on two reasons
She said one reason involves the
number of freshmen who par-
ticipate in the show The number of
participants has increased to a near
maiority of freshmen and the hours
of rehearsal time required creates a
strain on academic life
"Bv moving the Follies to an
earlier date the duration of the
rehearsals is substantially shorten-
ed" Bacon said
The second reason involves the
popularity of Parents' Day.
Bacon said Freshman Follies will
provide the primary entertainment
for the Parents' Day weekend and
will provide more opportunities for
students to spend time with their
parents
In the fall ot lsS8 the first
I reshman Parents' Dav was eon-
ducted and well-received Bacon
said Because of its popularity a fall
Parents' Day was scheduled instead
ol the annual Sing Song Parents'
Dav
Bacon coordinator ot Parents'
Da events said a director lor
Freshman Follies has not he chosen
yet and until a director is chosen
decisions concerning times place
and number of performances will
remain undecided
for a job well
done This year's
