To the Review;
The transition from Texas to
Minnesota at this season of the
year can hardly be realized. When
I left the Lone Star state ten days
ago, the roses were blooming, iu
the gardens. Here I find a land
of ice and snow. Everywhere
men are wearing overcoats made
of bear skins, coon skins, beaver
skins and all sorts of furs. The
women are similarly clad, only in
seal skin and other finer furs. I
had a curosity to know what one
of the overcoats cost, and on vis-
iting an establishment where all
manner of furs were kept for
sale, was informed that the prices
range from fifty to one hundred
dollars. The coon skin overcoats
are probably the most beautiful.
The work of the artisan is sur-
prising indeed. I inquired about
the price of mud, and was told ;'r
cun be bought for one Lutadred
and one hundred and fifty dollars
per acre. ThereJa little or no
UQ'CipVOved land. Now 1 would

tice of peace and swear that there

ing my sojourn in the state 1

not understand that snow is land.
It is not as cold here as Texas
people might suppose. The rea-
son is plain. The wind does not
blow. When it gets cold hero it
remains so for months. Yester-
day I saw a few men druying in
their shirt sleeves. The ; people

take life easy. In this particular ■young lady resides you under-

the most remarkable men of the
country who is in line for the
democratic presidential nomina-

; 1 have had some interesting
j correspondence with Gov. John-
son, and with his secretary of
(state, Mr. Day, and do not want
to leave Minnesota without seeing
them both. Gov. Johnson can
hardly be classed with the train-
ed statesmen of the nation, but
mind you, lie is a man of destiny
and will be heard from. His
chief characteristics are his sim-
ple manner of life and his rugged
honesty. As this state is nominal-
ly republican, it can easily be
seen that he is a great favorite
with the republicans, who for
to elect

In the event of his election to
the presidency lie will have no
trouble in selecting his cabinet,
for I have already made out the
away up here in this county? That
is the question my friends are
asking 1 know. Can there be a
woman at the bottom of it? Do
the folks at home know me so
well that I have to get this far
away for such a purpose as thpt?
Well, time will tell and we shall
see what we shall see. As I said,
a week or ten days more, and
then Fll start on my long run to
Texas, 1 have in past years been
pretty much all over the United
States, as well as out of it, but
all tilings considered the grandest
and best state in this Union is
Texas. Happy ought to be the
farmer in Texas, who has a good
well stocked farm paid for.
