library survey
reflects apathy
A lack of student interest
concerning Walker Memorial
Library exists said senate
Library committee chairman
Dale Edens after the results of
the April library survey were
released Monday.
More than 900 surveys were
distributed around campus but
only 136 replies were received.
Those who responded said that
a large majority (75 percent)
use the library less than five
hours per week. Nineteen
percent use it 6 to 10 hours per
week and only six percent said
that they use it more than 11
hours per week.
Present library hours are
satisfactory to 49.6 percent and
unsatisfactory to 50.4 percent.
Only eight percent thought
post decade
indicates album
sales boom
The past ten years have been
the greatest ever for the record
business. This decade has seen
tremendous increases in record
sales for all types of music.
Music industry officials have
attributed this increase to
three factors. First more
people have more leisure time
in which to listen to records.
Second there is more money in
the hands of young people who
are the most likely group to pur-
chase records. Finally the
promotion of new records
sometimes exceeds in intensity
the selling efforts behind
motion pictures and TV
programs.
Do you ever get to
reminiscing and try to remem-
ber what was the top song for a
certain year or what was the top
album? Here are the top selling
albums for the past ten years
albums that have helped to
cause the increase in record
sales:
1969 - "Abbey Road" The
Beatles
1970 "Bridge Over
Troubled Water" Simon and
Garfunkel
1971 "Tapestry" Carole
King
1972 "Tapestry" Carole
King
1973 "You Don't Mess
Around With Jim" Jim Croce
1974 - "Elton John's
Greatest Hits" Elton John
1975 "Captain Fantastic
and the Brown Dirt Cowboy"
Elton John
1976 "Frampton Comes
Alive" Peter Frampton
1977 - "Rumours" Fleet-

that the present library hours
were sufficient while 92 per
cent said that it should be open
more hours on Saturday.
Eighty-seven percent said
that library hours should be
longer during finals week.
Edens said that he received
some compaints about outdated
books in the library. He then
said the library personnel
commented that the faculty is
reponsible for requesting new
books. One suggestion was to
have afternoon hours instead of
morning hours on Saturday
and another said that if the
library were not so noisy more
people would use it to study.
Edens said that until more
students take an interest in the
library by merely using it few
changes will be made.
Unethical cults infiltrating universities
NEW YORK-"Unethical"
cults "have infiltrated almost
every campus in the country"
to such an extent that if "your
child is in college or high school
the chances are good that
sometime this year he or she
will be approached by a cult
recruiter" asserted a survey
article on cults in the current
(May) issue of Ladies' Home
Journal.
Cult researcher Flo Conway
asserted "Almost all the
groups are recruiting on
campus don't identify them-
selves." She cited the Reverend
Sun Myung Moon's Unification
Church which often enlists new
"Moonies" through CARP its
Collegiate Association for the
Research of Principles
organization. "They have

Gino Vannelli: not a well-known
name but a potential music great
Gino Vannelli. The name
probably doesn't ring many
bells; nevertheless Gino Van-
nelli is a very good musician.
He is finally being recognized
across the nation as the talent
that he is.
Vannelli first appeared as a
solo artist with his hit "Love Of
My Life" in 1976. The record
received a lot of attention in
other parts of the country but
never really caught on in Texas.
After "Love of My Life" Van-
nelli vanished from the music
scene not to reappear until last
fall.
"Brother To Brother" (A&M

fall of 1978. Only recently has
the album begun to have in-
creased sales partly because of
a major TV advertising cam-
paign for the record that was
launched in March.

vestigating cults for a book.
"They present themselves as a
campus social club Ppnplp are
drawn into the Moonie
movement and will be there
three or four weeks before they
even realize that CARP is part
of the Moon organization. By
that time they have become so
trapped by mind control
techniques that they really no
longer have the free will to
breakout."

The first introduction many
people had to Vannelli was with
the Top 40 hit "I Just Wanna
Stop" which was especially
popular in Brownwood last
semester. "I Just Wanna Stop"
is the best cut from the album
and perfectly exemplifies Van-
nelli's style.
Gino Vannelli has a very
sophisticated sound that could
best be described as mellow
rock. He does not have the over-
powering rock and roll sound
many artists have. Rather his
songs while being definitely of
the rock and roll variety seem
to have a flowing easy quality.
Besides "I Just Wanna Stop"
two other songs have made it ito
