Band Returns Thursday
After Four-Day Treck
McMurry College's Indian
Band has presented programs
ranging from classical to comedy
from novelty to complete worship
services on their December 4-7
four-day tour of eleven West
Texas cities and towns
The musicians directed by Dr
Raymond Bynum presented two
worship services Sunday Decem-
ber 4 and nine performances in
high schools December 5-7
Sunday the collegians present-
ed the morning worship at Mer-
kel First Methodist Church and
the evening worship at Lamesa
First Methodist Church
The band made performances
Monday at Seagraves O'Don-
nell and Brownfield high schools
Tuesday they appeared at the
high schools in Slaton Hale Cen-
ter and Ralls They performed
at Floydada Memphis and Spur
Wednesday
"Let Us Worship Through
Music ' was the theme for the
complete worship services High
lighting the services were instru-
mental solos special arrangements
for the band and its chorus and
accompaniment with English
Hand Bells and vibraharp
Selections for the services in-
cluded ' Sun of My Soul ' by Rit-
ter Fillmore's "The Beautiful
Garden of Prayer" featuring
soloists a hymn medley for vibra-
harp Adams' 'The Bells of St
Mary's" and S K Hine's 'How
Great Thou Art" performed by a
mixed quartet with a featured
soloist
McMurry Band has presented
worship services to congregations
over the Southwest for the past
20 j ears
The high school concerts in-
cluded overtures South American
numbers and novelty numbers
Each concert traditionally con-
cluded with a rendition of "The
Stars and Stripes Forever " This
year comedy numbers have been
added The post horn Latin
American instruments English
Hand Bells and other unusual in-
struments were utilized by the
Indian musicians Programs also
featured a trio for Frcnchhorns
a trio for trumpets a trio for
trombones a quartet for saxo-
phone a solo for a post horn and
a baritone horn solo
Band members stayed over-
night with families from the
church in Lamesa and in the
homes of high school students in
Brownfield and Ralls
Director Bynum has occupied
his present post since 1940 Ho
is a member of the American
Bandmasters Association a past
president of the Texas Music
Educators Association and is
listed in ' Who's Who in Music '
and in "Who's Who in the South
and Southwest "
