priest for both the Llano and
Mason parishes since Jan. 29,
J982.
The new rectory is being
built in Llano, said Patejko,
because Mason will be joining
the San Angelo diocese in
another two or three years.
“Billy McPher$on and his
crew work like madmen," said
Patejko. "They are doing a
fine job. I'm very grateful to
my parishoners for thejr fi-
nancial and moral support,
which has been marvelous."
Mark Beaubein is in charge
of the project for th^church,
said Patejko, and has been
instrumental in making the
progress with the new building
as rapid as possible. The
- architect for the building is
Stanley Kline of Fredericks-
burg. Patejko consulted with
the builders on the floor plan,
which will include a dining
room, kitchen, bedroom, guest
room, study, office and
garage.. -
After serving four years in
New Jersey and nine years in
North Dakota, Patejko says
that he prefers the Texas Hill
Country to anywhere he has
ever lived. "J plan to die
here,” he said.
Patejko first came to Ame-
rica in response to an invita-
tion from his uncle who lived
:n New Jersey. Unable to
.speak. fcnjtJjsh when he arrived
in (his country, PiitBjkfl said hfl
learned to speak English by
watching American television.
April 4, 1983 will mark
Patejko's 30th year in the
priesthood, a career which
took him to Austria, West
Germany, Rome and Holland
before he came to America. '
While studying for the
priesthood, Patejko had one
very memorable professor at
the Catholic University of
Poland. Karol Wojtyla. Today
Wojtyla is better known as
Pope John Paul II. "1 was in
the hospital for an operation
when I heard that he had been
selected as the new Pope”
rec*P*<* ....."When.....it
happened, my blood pressure
shot up; the doctors thought
I I'd had a relaps. But it was just
from my excitement from
Poland.”
Patejko noted that his family
is becoming more and more
spread around the globe, with
4>ne brother living in Egypt,
one niecein Iran and one niece
